Who are we?

Orangeburg Avenue Baptist Church is a multigenerational, Bible-believing church in Modesto, CA. While we are a Southern Baptist church, we welcome all through our doors. Our mission is: “In Modesto, for Modesto, for Jesus.”

What should I expect?

As far as our music goes, you should expect a blend of traditional and contemporary worship styles. Often times, we begin our service with an organ piece. Our service officially begins as the praise band leads a mix of contemporary and traditional songs. Each Sunday, our Pastor takes us through a passage in the Bible, and we end with another song. Morning service typically ends by 12:15pm and evening service typically ends at 7pm.

What should I wear?

Dress how you feel comfortable. We want to create an environment where you can be comfortable enough to engage with us and encounter God without distraction. At OABC, you’ll find people dress casual, business casual, and others wearing traditional Sunday apparel.

How is OABC different from other churches?

Orangeburg has been in Modesto since 1954. We have softer music and a smaller crowd than most of the churches down the road, but we like to think we have the friendliest church in the city. One of the best things about our church is that we’re an all-generations community. Whoever you are and however old you are, there’s a place for you here.

What about Sunday School?

We offer a number of Sunday School classes for all ages and walks of life. All classes start at 9:30am and let out at 10:30am, just in time for you to grab a coffee before service starts at 10:45am. For more information on what we offer for children and students during the Sunday School hour, see below. For more information on what Sunday School classes we offer for adults, click here:

What do you offer for my kids?

We strive to create environments that are both safe and celebratory of the child’s age and stage of life. We have a new, well kept nursery and well kept facilities for children and youth. Our teachers and staff undergo background checks and regular training and equipping to ensure that the very best care is being provided for the children at all times. We love what we do and the children we get to work with! Here’s what we offer on Sunday mornings:

  • Birth – 36 months: We provide nursery care during Sunday School and morning worship.
  • 3-Kindergarten: Sunday School and Children’s Church.
  • 1st-5th grade: Sunday School and Children’s Church. During the summer, they join the adults for worship.
  • 6th – 12th grade: Sunday School. They join the adults for morning worship.

We offer more programs during the week for all ages. For more information about our youth and children’s ministries, click below:
